Perth Chapter Meeting on the 31st May 2017  was titled “Global Mobility In An Uncertain Political Climate - Focus on Australian Immigration Changes”.

Sudden political change affecting global mobility has been the flavour of the last 12 months. Global Mobility is in a state of flux due to Brexit, Trump and domestic developments.

In Western Australia, we are seeing real change in this space - from the changes to the Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme following this year’s State Election to the Federal Government's immigration changes announced in April 2017.

This event’s specific focus was on the April 2017 immigration changes and the adverse effect they have had on Global Mobility in the Oil & Gas Industry. These major political decisions, events and conditions have had a significant impact on how businesses approach mobilisation of talent. More than ever, global mobility teams play an increasingly important and strategic role in ensuring the right people can be in the right place at the right time.

The following were discussed:

  • Key trends which are impacting on the movement of people
  • How to navigate through the constantly changing political landscape
  • How mobility and immigration programs are being adapted in response

1. Recent legislative and policy changes in Australia

  • Journey from an Open Market to Protectionism
  • Australia’s political landscape

  • Understanding the new occupation lists
  • Timeline of Reforms

Navigating immigration changes, what you can do:
