FEM is delighted to confirm that Andrea Benavides, Americas Regional Lead, Global Employee Mobility at Hewlett Packard Enterprise will be joining us for a Mobility Masterclass on 'Attracting and retaining top talent in a competitive market', at the FEM Americas Global Mobility Summit 2018 on May 23-24 at the Loews Coronado Bay Resort, San Diego, CA.
"To me, there is no greater tool in this business than meeting, engaging and learning from our peers. No mobility program is alike and having the opportunity to come together and grow as professionals is invaluable. You never know what you will learn or who will teach it to you!"
Rosie Perkins, FEM's Marketing Manager spoke to Andrea ahead of the Summit...
FEM: How long have you been involved in the Global Mobility sector?
AB: It will be 13 years in August 2018
FEM: What changes have you seen in that time?
AB: While there are so many things I could list, some of the overall themes to the changes I've experienced would be:
- a) a shift from logistical to strategical,
- b) the evolution of what it means to outsource mobility and
- c) the emergence of mobility as a mechanism for enhancing a company's competitive edge.
- And of course, who could forget US tax reform and its impact on the industry! For the first time in a while, US mobility became the hot topic of conversation!
FEM: What tip would you give to someone new to the industry?
AB: Always strive to listen, learn then teach others. There is so much tenure, knowledge and expertise in this industry and constantly challenging your knowledge will make you a better colleague, employee and partner every day.
FEM: What do you think are the 3 greatest challenges facing Global Mobility professionals today?
AB: Cost containment, the ever-changing geopolitical climate, and need to provide continuous education on the value of mobility to an organization's success.
FEM: Why do you think your Mobility Masterclass on ‘Attracting and retaining top talent in a competitive market’ is such a challenge for Global Mobility and why is it important that the audience understand more about the subject?
AB: It's been a challenge because within some organizations, it's difficult to get a 'seat at that table' with leaders in the talent arena. Even for mobility teams that have a seat at this esteemed table, you have to continue to remain relevant to the talent goals that can shift on a dime. At times those groups need some guidance to connect the dots on how mobility can always have a place in their plans. Being able to connect those dots for others and show the value will secure and grow your program and if the company culture encourages it, the ability to find your own "why" of Mobility and truly become transformative.
FEM: What is the one message you hope delegates take away from your session?
AB: Adding up a lot of small wins can create the impact you were hoping for - sometimes slow and steady, even in mobility, wins the race! Come to the session to find out more and see what I mean.
FEM: Why do you think it’s important for global mobility professionals to come together at the FEM Americas GM Summit?
AB: To me, there is no greater tool in this business than meeting, engaging and learning from our peers. No mobility program is alike and having the opportunity to come together and grow as professionals is invaluable. You never know what you will learn or who will teach it to you!
