The Many Facets of Mobility
Melbourne Chapter Meeting event summary - 10th November 2016
An informative and in depth look at mobility through the lens of several industries. Our panellists generously explored their mobility programs, best practice, lessons learned and their journey so far for 2016, as well as their thoughts on what 2017 and beyond holds for Mobility within their industries.
Paul Rubinstein, partner at Deloitte facilitated the session (hosted at Deloitte).
Panellists:
- Heather Williams, Senior Manager, International Mobility at ANZ
- Rick Verhage, Manager, Global Mobility at ANZ, AECOM.
(Our third speaker was not able to make it due to ill health).
Paul referred to recent surveys (see links below) and indicated two clear GM trends - increase in agility and increase in business partnering.
More specifically - increasing use of flexible working arrangements, contingent workers, use of global talent pools, more frequent business travellers, Millennials will make up 75% of the workforce by 2020 (their expectations very different from gen X).
This then impacts on assignment types, policies/benefits, reward structures and increasingly seeking people that are developing a global mindset and have cultural agility.
Heather's deep dive into GM in relation to the various experiences she has had personally and professionally was very informative, enjoyable and much appreciated. The important of GM finding a seat on "the table" and how programs can be improved.
Rick mentioned that AECOM was using the Salesforce CRM system to track talent (the audience appreciated finding out about this strategy). Employees are encouraged to upload their CVs, qualifications, degrees, languages and there is a section where they can complete their mobility preferences. The talent team then use this information to see who is mobile and help resource projects or fill a vacancy with an internal employee. Rick kindly supplied the link.
