Deadline Imminent for Submitting Annual Returns of Foreign Workers

All Ghanaian companies that employ foreign national workers must submit an annual return by the deadline of 14th January 2017.

The return must state names and addresses of all foreign nationals in their employment as at 1st January 2017, and must be submitted to the immigrant quota issuing authority, with a copy sent to the Director of Immigration.

Companies that fail to submit in time face a fine of 1000 GHS and individuals are liable to pay 200 GHS. If fines are not paid within seven days, employers may be subject to criminal prosecution and additional monetary penalties.

Our advice

Ghanaian companies should ensure that annual returns are submitted by 14th January 2017 for all foreign national employees.

Online System Introduced for Work Permit Applications

A new online system has been implemented by the Ghana Petroleum Commission (GPC) which has been designed to facilitate submitting work permit applications.

Work permit applicants must email their application and all supporting documents for the attention of the ‘Work Permit Committee (WPC), Localization Unit, Petroleum Commission’ to humanresourcecommittee@petrocom.gov.gh. The WPC will acknowledge receipt of the application and review and assess it, before advising the applicant to submit an original paper application to the Commission.

Our advice

Work permit applicants in the oil and gas sector should submit their applications for online review, resulting in a more streamlined process.
