The Detroit FEM Chapter took a deep dive into the topic of healthcare insecurity with the event “Expatriate and Business Traveler Healthcare Insecurity Insight.” We also had a special guest from AIRINC to present on their 2017 Mobility Outlook Survey results.

We were pleased to have Dr. Margaret-Mary Wilson, Senior Vice President & Chief Medical Officer of UnitedHealthcare Global, present on the topic of healthcare insecurity, a growing significance due to the increasing globalization and global mobility. One of the primary topics of discussion was the issue that expatriates and travelers lack information on obtaining healthcare abroad. We also discussed a few case studies, in which an expatriate was evacuated to their home country due to a minor medical issue.

Allen Koski, Senior Vice President of UnitedHealthcare Global, shared what employers can offer to their expats, such as medical support and information alerts while the employee is abroad. Each expat can be given a plan, such as knowing where the closet medical center is and what to do in case of an emergency.

We also had the pleasure of having Frank Bodengraven from AIRINC present on their 2017 Mobility Outlook Survey results. The results were based on 130 organizations, in which some of the following were observed, among many others:

  • The priorities & challenges for mobility;
  • How companies are using metrics to help on Mobility’s success;
  • What types of manufacturing companies measure assignment success;
  • How Mobility contains cost;
  • Mobility growth and its impact on policy.
  • We would like to extend a special thanks to our speakers, Dr. Margaret-Mary Wilson, Allen Koski, and Frank Bodengraven for offering their expert advice and opinions on the matter.
