We’ve all had some time now to process the significant changes announced in March so in this session, we want to go beyond the technical and get into the practical. Join us on Tuesday 8 August for a panel discussion hosted by KPMG to discuss the ‘real-world’-side of the immigration changes. We will hear from our panellists from industry on the following:

• What they are doing in their businesses to respond to the changes including identification of affected employees
• Implementation of strategies around timing of applications, and
• What their employees are saying and how they are planning for the future.

The panel discussion will be the focus of the day so be sure to come armed with questions, your own experiences and observations to share.

As the technical landscape continues to be ever-changing we will also be providing some technical updates for the group. To kick off we will recap on the tax changes impacting expatriates in the May budget – hopefully we will have some further detail from draft legislation to share with you by August. Additionally, in July we expect another round of announcements regarding the skilled occupations list so we also include a brief technical update from our migration advisory team.  

Speaker Panel: 
Heather Williams, Senior Manager, International Mobility at ANZ
Heather is a seasoned business professional based in Melbourne and manages ANZ’s global mobility function. She has a 360-degree lens over the world of international mobility and since 1980 has lived and worked in four countries and most of Australia, and has experienced a number of assignment types. Her work experience includes managing ‘remote site’ international assignee populations, and managing head offi ce international mobility functions and logistics for a variety of global organisations. Heather has worked in a variety of industries including financial services, mining and resources, fashion, hospitality, retail, health, and professional services.

Meera Srinivasan, Manager – Policy, Strategy & Governance – Global Mobility at Rio Tinto
Meera is a global mobility practitioner with over 10 years’ experience in both an industry and consulting capacity. Meera currently work as a Global Mobility Manager at Rio Tinto and  works closely with key business stakeholders to drive the Group mobility policies and agenda. She is currently part of the GM policy, strategy and governance team. Meera began her career in tax consulting at PwC and later at EY. She has experience in expatriate tax consulting, GM consulting and implementing assignment technology.

James Simpson, Partner, Head of Workplace & Employment Law at KPMG Law
James is an employment and labour law specialist, and leads KPMG Law’s Workplace & Employment Law practice. He has advised many of Australia's largest and most respected organisations, as well as Commonwealth and State government departments.James' practice spans both advisory work and litigation, and includes complex employment litigation, organisational restructuring, industrial relations management, engagement and termination of employees, work health and safety (including critical incident response) and major workplace investigations. Most recently, James was recognised by Chambers Global 2016 for his "prowess as a litigator on complex workplace matters." Clients praise him for his "incredible strategic brain" and his ability to "take some quite innovative approaches to his case.”

Mike Wall, Partner and National Leader at KPMG Immigration
Mike is a Partner and National Leader of KPMG’s immigration practice in Australia.  He is also the Asia Pacific representative for KPMG’s Global Immigration Network. Mike has over 20 years’ experience in the immigration industry having been registered as a Migration Agent since 1995.  Over this time Michael has worked extensively with Australian and overseas corporations across a broad range of industries, advising them on their immigration requirements and importantly ensuring optimal efficiency while managing their risk. Importantly, Michael has extensive experience in working in multi-disciplinary consulting environments and through this experience, Michael ensures that immigration advice is not provided in isolation but compliments his clients broader mobility requirements.
