As a result of yesterday's earthquake, please note the following developments:

  • Government offices in Puebla, Morelos, and Mexico City will be tentatively open with limited services starting September 21 and for the remainder of the week, unless their offices have been directly affected by the earthquake, in which case they could remain closed longer.
  • All immigration-related legal terms, deadlines and expirations were formally postponed by the Mexican National Immigration Institute in Mexico City, Puebla and Morelos on September 19, and will remain postponed until Monday, September 25. The government reserves the right to extend this period further depending on the extent of any damage to governmental buildings.
  • All governmental agencies remained closed today, September 20.
  •  The Mexico City International Airport has resumed normal operations.
Fragomen Operations
Fragomen's Mexico City building was unharmed by the earthquake and all Fragomen staff and their families are safe. However, the office was closed today, September 20, due to connectivity issues. It is currently unclear when the Fragomen office will open. We will keep you informed of updates to this situation.

What This Means for Employers
Employers should ensure the safety of their employees and should be prepared for delays in immigration processes.

Fragomen's Mexico City phone number has been rerouted to our Costa Rica office until we reopen. Alternatively, callers trying to reach the Mexico City office until it reopens can call the firm's office in Costa Rica directly, at +506-4101-4900.

We are closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates as more information becomes available.
We hope that you and your loved ones are safe and that you are able to get back to your usual routine as soon as possible.
