In 2017 the Commonwealth Government abolished the 457 Temporary Work visa. With it went the notion that any skilled occupation could be sponsored for a work visa in Australia.
The new 482 visa removed 30% of eligible occupations and prevented a further 30% from accessing permanent residency. The impact for businesses has been increased challenges in recruitment and retention. The government’s review of the occupation lists presents organisations with a major opportunity to address these challenges by having the government reconsider the occupation lists.
