Immigration authorities will start strictly enforcing work permit extension rules, according to a recent statement by the Ministry of National Security. Work permit extensions must be filed no later than eight weeks prior to expiry of the valid work permit. Those who fail to renew their work permit before it expires must leave the country and file a new work permit application.
What This Means for Foreign Nationals
An immigration professional will contact foreign workers in Trinidad and Tobago 120 days prior to expiration of their work permit to start gathering renewal documentation. Processing of the work permit application takes approximately one month.
