Labor authorities have set new minimum wages for several economic sectors. Sectors such as production and distribution of electricity, gas, water and the mining industry were increased by 12.5%, 11.75% and 10.11%, respectively. The new wage levels apply retroactively from April 1, 2016.

What This Means for Employers

Employers should work with their administrative departments to ensure that employees are paid at least the new minimum salaries. Since the new wage levels apply retroactively, employees must be back paid if their wages since April 1, 2016 did not meet the new levels.
