In this session, with the help of special counsel's Cherie Wright and Charles Johanes, we explored the potential impact that the result of the Federal Election - including a change in government - could have on international mobility programs based on the policy position of the major political parties and independents.
In particular, we will cover historically how each of the major parties has shaped our visa and immigration programs and their most recent policy statements. We will also include an analysis of the Federal Budget, where Australia sits comparatively with its Asian neighbours who will also be going to the polls this year and what you need to know to prepare your business and assignees for the year ahead, in an increasingly challenging geopolitical environment.
We also considered the following in a breakout session:
· How would the ALP’s proposed changes to the SAF Levy,TSMIT, restrictions on allowances & requirement to pay wages into Australian bank accounts impact your business?
· What would be the impact if the LMT select ‘occupation/position’ concessions were removed?
· How would you manage this change within your business including stakeholder communications?
· If you were Immigration Minister for the day, what policy changes would you make?
