The main new features introduced are as follows:
- The catalog of occupations that are difficult to fill is extended to facilitate the hiring of foreigners in Spain.
- Reduced deadlines to encourage the hiring of foreigners in the country of origin.
- Longer renewal period for Residence Cards (T.I.E.).
- Facilities for foreigners to obtain self-employment permits.
- Student visas will allow foreigners to work automatically, for longer hours and without geographical limitations.
- Elimination of the previous 3-year period required to modify a student visa to a work permit.
- Improvements in the requirements for family reunification are established.
- Major changes in labor and social roots.
- Facilities for family members of Spanish nationals to settle in Spain.
- Creation of the new figure of "arraigo" for training purposes.
- The renewed work permit will allow the foreigner to work both as an employee and as a self-employed person.
